What the difference between Cold Process and Glycerin Soap? For BradburyHCo we make or cold process butters mixed with lye to emulsion in a process called saponification. Once mixed the soap will slowly transform from liquid, to a frosting like consistency before hardening, often in long loaf molds. After approximately 24 hours it can be pulled from the mold and cut into bars to cure for an additional 4-6 weeks. This process does produce some glycerin, though in far less quantities than what would be considered a glycerin soap. Glycerin Soap is also made with oils, butters and lye but additional glycerin is added. The additional glycerin allows it to me melted (Yes, melt and pour soaps are glycerin soaps!) and to hold it's shape for molding. This makes for a firmer bar of soap overall, preventing making large loafs to be cut into smaller bars. Each glycerin soap is cooled in it's mold and removed after 24 hours. These can be made 1 soap at a time, but are often done in batches for consistence color and fragrance. For BradburyHCo we make or cold process staring with the oils, butter and lye. Our glycerin soaps start with a base that already has the added glycerin added.

What is a skin test?A skin test is preformed by rubbing a small amount of the product somewhere on your skin (often this is done on the forearm and covered in a bandage) and checking for a reaction in 24 hours. This is a great idea with any new product you have purchased. While we do our best to accommodate any allergen, no two people will ever be exactly the same. If you have any concern about our ingredient lists please reach out to us at: Bradbury.Home.Collection@gmail.com

What do I do if I have a reaction?Stop use immediately! While all soaps are formulated to be safe for use, not everyone’s skin reacts the same way to all ingredients. We always recommend doing a skin test when trying a new product. If you have any concerns, or have already purchased a soap and are now having a reaction, please let us know at bradbury.home.collection@gmail.com

What goes into deciding your pricing?Mostly it comes down to time, storage and supply cost. All items are currently made in small batches by hand. This could be as small as a single item. Using Cold Process soap as an example, a small batch makes 12 bars. Each batch on top of the time to create also requires set up/prep, clean up, next day de-molding, and curing time. Curing for cold process soaps takes 4-6 weeks after de-molding. (Often you can get sneak peaks of upcoming soaps at Bradbury Home Collection's Instagram page done during the de-molding stage.) Storage is split between ingredients, soap in the curing process, completed items, and labeled items. Material cost is a combination of how much you can store (room available) and how much you can purchase at a time ($). The more you can get at a time usually reduces the cost per unit. In that way, a 10 oz package costs more per oz than a 5lb container, which in turn is more expensive than a full pallet. BradburyHCo is a small business currently run out of our homes. We would like for everyone who enjoys out product to get as much as they would like, we also want to continue to be here to supply these items. A handmade item is always going to cost more compared to larger mass produced items.
